Bipolar

Bipolar Hip Prosthesis is an orthopedic implant for femoral neck fractures of the hip. The damaged joint is replaced with an artificial one that has two bearings. The bearings enable the head to swivel while moving, protecting the hip joint from deterioration.

Unlike total hip replacement, in which both the ball of the femur and the hip socket is replaced, the placement of Bipolar Hip Prosthesis is done by replacing only the head of a damaged femur with an artificial femoral head called Bipolar prosthesis designed to stabilize the femur and restore hip function.

These are intended for
  • Hemiarthroplasty for patients with massive acetabular deficiencies which do not permit secure fixation of the acetabular component.
  • Hip instability caused by a deficiency of the abductors is a relative indication.
  • Patient with no abductor musculature.
